Spiritual Warfare (Part V)

What does it look like to go to war by sending the worship team in first? That is exactly what the story of Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20 asks us to wrestle with. Three nations unite to destroy Judah, and rather than responding with military strategy, God instructs Jehoshaphat to place the singers and musicians at the front of the army. The result is staggering: the enemy armies turn on one another and destroy themselves. This ancient account holds a profound truth for us today. The most powerful weapon we have in spiritual warfare is not the one that comes naturally. When fear presses in, when opposition mounts, when the circumstances feel overwhelming, our instinct is to fight back on the same level as the threat. But God consistently calls us to something higher. Worship is not a warm-up act for the real battle. Worship is the battle. When we lift our focus from the size of the problem to the greatness of God, something shifts in the spiritual atmosphere around us. This sermon challenges us to examine what we reach for first when life gets hard, and to consider whether we have been underestimating the power of praise as a frontline weapon in our daily lives.
