Our Story

In 1997 Gateway's Founding Pastor, Phil Maxwell, together with his wife, Lynda and three children, were called by God as missionaries to the USA from Cape Town, South Africa.

They founded Gateway Church in Bridgewater NJ in 1998 and began meeting at Green Knoll Firehouse.

In 2005, the church was in need of a larger facility and God provided a home at our current location in Bridgewater NJ on Milltown Road across the street from North Branch Park. 

In 2018, we were preparing to offer a second Sunday service but God had other plans and provided us with a second location in Flemington NJ.

At the beginning of 2024, Pastor Shawn White took on the position of Senior Pastor. He is the son-in-law of Founding Pastor Phil Maxwell and has served in many positions including worship leader, youth pastor and associate pastor at Gateway. Shawn received his Master's Degree in Theological studies from Kaleo Institute in 2012 and has been in ministry for over twenty years.
