Light Of the World

Dec 28, 2025    Joe Cusumano

Every December, we spend countless hours and resources stringing lights across our homes, transforming the darkest nights into displays of radiant beauty. But have you ever stopped to wonder why? This past Sunday Joe Cusumano preached from John 8:12 where Jesus declares 'I am the light of the world.' We're reminded that Christ didn't merely point us toward light; He IS the light. The same eternal God who spoke creation into existence humbled Himself to become a baby in Bethlehem, and that changes everything.

The darkness in our world—sickness, betrayal, fear, death itself—threw its worst at Jesus on the cross. Yet on the third day, the light turned back on, proving once and for all that darkness has an expiration date. What's even more remarkable is Jesus' declaration in Matthew 5:14: 'You ARE the light of the world.' Not… ‘might be’, not… ‘should try to become’ — you ARE.

Through the Holy Spirit dwelling within us, we become extension cords for God's light, carrying His presence into every dark corner of our world. This isn't about pretending darkness doesn't exist; it's about declaring that darkness has already lost. When we choose generosity, forgiveness, truth spoken in love, and simple presence with those who suffer, we become living testimonies that the light has come and will never be extinguished. May this be our aim for our lives in 2026.
